What is CGPA?

CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is the mean of the Grade Points obtained by a student in all semesters of a course. It is the primary metric used by universities worldwide to assess long-term academic performance.

Method 1: Simple Mean (SGPA)

The simplest way to calculate CGPA is by averaging your Semester Grade Point Averages (SGPA). If all semesters have equal credit weighting:

Formula: (Sum of SGPAs) / Count

Method 2: Credit-Weighted

In most professional degrees (Engineering/Medical), semesters have different credit values. In this case, use the weighted mean:

Σ(SGPA × Credits) / Σ(Total Credits)

CGPA to Percentage

Standard Indian universities (like CBSE) use a multiplier of 9.5 to convert grade points into aggregate percentage for documentation.

Multiplication Rule: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
